Continuing Education for Adults

Grounds for Discussion

An adult study group meets most Sunday mornings beginning at 9:00 in the parlor of the Backus House. Topics include contemporary concerns such as the Slots Bill, minority rights issues, healthcare, Bible study and exploring other faiths. Coffee is served and lively discussion is encouraged following the presentation.

Lenten Studies

During the Season of Lent, group Bible study is held in conjunction with dinner each Thursday evening. During this time we also host small covenant study groups.

After Church Events

Periodically there are events following worship that feature lunch and a distinguished speaker. Past speakers include The Rev. Brian McClaren, pastor and author, The Rev. Dr. Barbara Wheeler, President of Auburn Theological Seminary, and The Rev. Dr. Marva Dawn, noted clergyperson and author.

Interfaith Dialogue

Throughout the year, First and Franklin promotes the various educational events of the Institute for Christian and Jewish Studies.
