FAQs
First and Franklin is a PC(USA) church. As such, we adhere to the teachings and affirmations of the Brief Statement of Faith and the Book of Confessions. For more information on our denomination, please visit the PCUSA website.
We are a more traditional congregation in our style of worship, but you will see congregants in a variety of “Sunday bests” from suits and skirts to jeans, slacks to kilts, and shorts in the warmer months. You will even see some Orioles orange or Ravens purple on game days here in Baltimore--in general, wear something in which you are comfortable!
Because we are in the heart of Baltimore City, parking is limited, though we do have a small lot off of Howard St. just a block north of the church in which you may park. Ample street parking is also available on the streets surrounding the church.
In keeping with the decision of the PCUSA as a denomination, we believe that God has equally ordained men and women to preach and serve in the church. Therefore, women are able and actively encouraged serve as pastors, teaching elders, ruling elders, and deacons in our community. In any given Sunday worship service, you will see women in the congregation usher, serve as the liturgist, and serve Communion to the congregation.
First & Franklin is an inclusive, accepting, and welcoming church for anyone and everyone. No matter how you identify on the sexuality spectrum or the gender spectrum, you are welcome and invited to worship with us! An early member of the More Light Movement, we are committed to full inclusion and participation for the LGBTQ+ community.
